I wake up from the rain. But there are no clouds and no light. Just water hammering on the metal roof. I realize i did not turn of the pump after showering in the evening. I fix it. I go back to bed. I wake up again to different noises way to close.

Some monkeys figured i did not close the balcony door and felt invited to turn the kitchen upside down while grabbing anything resembling eatable material – including the trash. What a mess.
This is my last day in Ukunda/Diani Beach. I had to book my trip to Nairobi for tomorrow, since there where no train places left for today.
Jessica had invited me to stay at her place so i did not have to book another night at the villa. We move my luggage in the morning after waking up for real. We go to Mombasa via Matatu.

Note, that this is a well developed, fairly new street. The views are amazing and the variety of scenery just astonishing.
To get to Mombasa, you have to take a ferry, since the city itself is to 90% an Island.

The ferry is free for passengers without vehicles and incredibly crowded.

We take a small city tour in a Tuktuk and drive to Fort Jesus, where we take a tour. The Guide seems pretty strictly Moslem, hating on Portuguese for slavery, but not on the Muslims who kept, giving the Brits no credits for abolishing it. The History is pretty interesting and the Fort is fairly well kept – definitely worth a visit.

Another Tuktuk and Matatu ride later we go to Kongo River to see the sunset.

This is no glitch: On the right side is Kongo River, on the left side is the sea – during high tide and flood season the river does flow into the sea.

We take a ride in a small wooden canoe which has several leaks in it, so we have to shovel out water all the time, but our Captain is motivated: We overtake several other boats and make it in time.

The views are stunning and the Captain does a small detour to show us a Voodoo cave, which honestly is a bit scary since it seems it is still being used – he even tells about pricing and how he thinks it`s all a scam – underlined by several examples.
We bring some Pizza when we go back. It’s more expensive then in Europe – Jessica`s Kids are actually taking pictures of it for Instagram.
